Change of plans!
Monday, March 28, 2011 || 6:43 PM

28th March! We were supposed to have orientation programme... bu ANYWAY, there's a change of plans.

Instead of going for the "camp"/"leadership training", we had a little trip to bugis in the afternoon.

Let's backtrack a bit..
Well, we met Vani in the morning, and had a little briefing session. She seemed a little scary but oh wells? I guess she's nice most of the time disciplinary people are always more scary when they're serious.. right? *shrugs*)
And we got to talk to one of the SA person... Aaron (?) i think.. got to know a little bit more about SA and DSC. SA's like prefect's life (all over again =___=) while DSC's like the Peer Support Leaders in my secondary school.. hmmm... i don't know which to join! @_@

then, we went to Bugis area to look at the printing shops that the design students go to. Found out a few other interesting shops too! Too bad we were all quite tired..

All i cans ay is, glad to be home~
(gosh transport fee is horrible!)

VSC PHOTOGRAPHY!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION SHOOT!

what's int he studio? LIGHTS!
how can lights create the effect wanted?

look at our model, Jessica!
i kinda like this shot.
pics! so bright!

not forgetting, RAINA!

So, on 25th mar, we did photography! learnt a lot more about Cannon and Nikon DSLRs.. quite interesting.. makes me wanna buy one! *resists the temptation!!!* i really like taking pics!

my group got the theme "Life in a HDB Flat" and what we did was to 'run' around the HDB area and take lots of photos! It was quite fun 'cause we get to go out of school!

we felt like secret agents/spies actually.. *teheheee* it was VERY fun! went to various floors of various HDB flats.. taking pics of shoes to furniture outside the houses.. and even played at the playground for a while! (shhh! it's a secret!)

In the end, we took more than 60 pics and deleted so many of them *heart pain!* until we had 12 left for our presentation. Well, everyone's pics were great! very nice indeed! ^^

and we spent the time after school has ended, taking jump shots and playing a game! :D

haha! DES DPA people are CRAZILY FUN! no doubt 'bout that!

the environment, the interior

more work!
our mindmap!
yeappx! the cam people's craze!

well, we met with Mr Hariff (sp?) and did some environmental design stuff. brainstorming and even drawing out our city plan. Well, we had to me it eco-friendly! The brainstorming part was fun c'ause we didnt have enough time to think about it thoroughly. Just throw in any ideas you have! the drawing of the city part was FUN! HAHA! i really felt like i was a primary school kid again! XP *oops?* and we come up with interesting ideas.. well, we are NOT making the real thing anyway... so why not just draw up something really innovative? My group did a water city where transport is mainly via water! cool huh!

this is cleo, regina and siu yen's werk! very impressive!
another pic of it!

We then had lunch at Mensa 2 (again) before going for the IAD (shrieks!) stuff!

watched a video(?) of an architect building buildings out of... well... rubbish! very creative and environmentally friendly! too bad not everyone accepts that idea.

well.. honestly, i was a little disappointed with it 'cause it was the course that i'll be taking for the next 3 years, and i didn't really learn much about IAD :C *sad face* I was hoping that maybe we'll be able to do some hands-on activities.. or even visit some hotels that have great interior design rooms (my brother told me of this hotel that has rooms designed by various designers.. they have different themes to it! so unique!)

overall, it was a great day nonetheless.

the beauty of our everyday products

Piano Lamp! what i did for that day's activity!this is interesting! honestly!
i find the red letter boxes super uber cute!
i love this clock! so stylish!

SO! what do you think?

haha! honestly, the URA part was pretty random..
Red Dot museum part was AWESOME!

Went around looking at the different products. It was really interesting. my first time there so it was kinda cool to see the items on display. lights to toilet items.. to almost everything and anything! It's amazing how innovative and creative people are... and how weird it was that the ideas were so simple, yet we didn't think about it at all!

well, lesson learnt! Don't think too much about an idea you have. Just go with it! Figure out how to make your idea into reality! And don't think that any idea is stupid 'cause it's usually the "stupid" ideas that are the best ideas!

SHOPPING.. design related..

On the 21st March, we learnt more about retail and hospitality design. Well, what's learning without seeing and experiencing it yourself? So, we went to NEX!
Well, after looking at the area (it was my first time there), i find it quite huge. I guess i can't comment too much on anything.. Had our lunch there too! (yum yum! :P)

mushroom spaghetti!

After spending our time looking around the area and going into the shops, we took the bus back to TP to have a little group discussion.

We talked about our favourite shop there and discussed what we like about the shop! Most of the time, we don't really think about how the objects are being placed, the lighting they use or the colours they use for the branding of their goods. However, it's all these stuff that attracts the customers, and make them aware of the products. It's interesting how people play with colours and lights to create an environment or an effect on shoppers! ^^ And it's really interesting when you notice how a shop is being designed! :D

Overall, i really enjoyed this trip as it was fun, in a way that we get to do whatever we want, and explore at the same time. It's like an independent learning experience, and a time to really get to know my other DES DPA-mates! Hope that we get to do more of these trips in the future! visit various area related to our course and experience it ourselves!

CHEERS TO DESIGN DPA!! :]

Movies? MOI!

how do you handle the vid cam?

my group!Im sitting at the back!

the classroom!

the DPA DES students!

We had MOI on 23rd March! It's a whole new experience for me! At first, i thought that making videos were difficult and boring as it requires a lot of "computer work", which i really dislike! But after the session, it really changed my mindset of what making videos is really like.

Firstly, we were taught about the basics - BCU, CU, LS MIX SHOT, PAN. Also, I learnt that it is these basics that can be used to capture important messages in your videos. Furthermore, we also learnt that we could use to zooming effect in our videos!

Then, it was our turn to draw up an idea for our 1 minute videos. I was in group 2 and my group decided to do "My Rich Dream". This video is a parody of the song Billionaire by Bruno Mars, and it shows the desires that we had. For example, we dreamed of having famous designer accessories and clothes, meeting famous people and traveling to many countries!

Although we had a story and a plan, I realised that it was not easy to simply do a video immediately. We did not have the props we needed, thus we used paper and texts to portray our ideas. Also, we need to think into greater details for the video, and not just the vague ideas alone! This is important as vague ideas often lead our thoughts and ideas away from the original plan, thus killing the purpose of the video.

Furthermore, i was one of the actresses in the video and i realised that acting wasn't as easy as it seems. It was embarrassing for me as people were looking at us, and i often giggled while videoing. Honestly, it was very difficult for me to stop laughing; that's why I will never ever want to act! :D

After that, we all came back to our "classroom", and Guna helped us to edit. It was very interesting too see how he edited the videos based on our ideas and what little videos we could give him! Also, I'm amazed at how he could make our videos look like a TV show! He made everything fall in place, with a proper flow and order!

Lastly, although I liked the session today, I think I may not really try out movie/video making as it is not my cup of tea. Videoing, to me, seems extremely complicated and technical. All in all, i enjoyed myself, and I really appreciate the little details that producers and editors include in a video to make it eye-catching.

Tie-dying plus Silk screen?
Sunday, March 20, 2011 || 4:34 PM

What did we do? here's a clue...
-dye designs!

DAY 2!
we ventured into ADM!
:D clothes and colours!

We did tie dying first! Gosh it's REALLY interesting watching the teacher(?) make all the different patterns using dyes. It really looked fun! My favourite was the spiral design and the heart shape!

Well, i did the heart shape first as it seemed easy and NICE! :D in total, i made about 4 designs on the white pieces of cloth before making the shirt. We used a LOT of rubber bands, marbles, pipes, strings and dyes; made a lot of mess too! XP

-our messy table
-the outcome?

Haha! it was a little pressurizing because there's only 1 piece of shirt for us to "play" with, and i'm afraid of destroying it. Well, i did destroy part of it but i guess the ugly parts are what makes it look nice. I guess we were too engrossed with our "experimenting" on the clothes we sort of forgotten the time. Instead of going for lunch on time, we were a little late as we rushed to complete our work!

-me at work here!

After lunch, we proceeded to do silk screening(?) and it's really interesting! i didn't know that the prints on our usual shirts were made of a paste looking paint! Also, i realised why custom designing of T-shirts were so expensive! Firstly, there is a need to get the paint; and secondly, there is a need to get the boards done. Multi-coloured designs meant that more of the boards need to be made, thus more expensive! I wonder why i didn't think of this in the past. hmmm..

All in all, it was really fun playing with dyes! it's interesting how we can play with colours and create new and original patterns or designs. It really seemed like a one-of-a-kind item too! I wonder it i'll wear my shirt out though.. :P

-aww! got yellow dye on my lovely white shoes! :C
